What Is The Full Form Of CIC: The Right to Information Act, 2005 was enacted by the Government of India to provide information about government functions to the citizens of the country and to make that information more effectively. What Is The Full Form Of CIC

The full form of CIC is “Central Information Commission”, which is pronounced as ‘Central Information Commission’, it is called “Chief Information Commissioner” in English. The main objective of this organization is to provide information to the people, under which correct information is made available to the people of the country. What Is CIC Or Chief Information Commissioner

The Central Information Commission (CIC) was constituted on 12.10.2005 under the Right to Information Act, 2005. The jurisdiction of the Commission has been delegated to all the Central Public Authorities.



The Commission has been vested with certain powers and functions, which are mentioned in Sections 18, 19, 20, and 25 of the Right to Information Act.


The tasks to be done under this include preparation of an annual report as well as the inability to file information application, look into and then investigate the complaint based on facts, adjudication of the second appeal for information, and maintenance of records. Instructions to, Self Disclosure, RTI Receiving and investigating complaints on inability to file, imposition of fines and monitoring and reporting, etc. The decisions of the Commission are considered final and binding.

Constitution Of Central Information Commission

RTI A body by the name of Central Information Commission was constituted by the Central Government under the provisions of section 12 of the CPC Act, 2005. Apart from this, the term of office and service conditions of Information Commissioners have been kept in Section-13 and provisions have been given to remove them from the post under Section-14.



In this, a provision has been made for a Chief Information Commissioner and a maximum of 10 Central Information Commissioners, who are appointed by the President of the country. Apart from this, these appointments also have the consent of the committee headed by the Prime Minister, in which the Lok Sabha members and the Leader of the Main Opposition, and the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Minister are members.


Composition Of The CIC

At present, Sudhir Bhargava is holding the post of its Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission of the country. She has been working as the Information Commissioner since 2015. Apart from this, 4 other Information Commissioners have also been appointed with him. Due to which the total number of members in the commission has now become 7, if we talk about the maximum number of approved members, then the number is 11 in it. For which the Central Government has already issued an advertisement to appoint the remaining four members.

CIC Tenure And Service

The maximum tenure of a person holding the posts of Chief Information Commissioner and Information Commissioner is up to five years, along with this, if he completes the age of 65 years before the term, then there is a provision to resign in such a situation. Apart from this, that person cannot be re-appointed to this post.
